Superconducting quantum information research scientist

We are seeking an experienced quantum research scientist for the development of superconducting qubit-based quantum processors. The position will be focused on developing (both experimentally and theoretically) aspects of superconducting qubit processors such as:

  • Develop extensible calibration frameworks
  • Implement new approaches to error mitigation
  • Implement proof-of-principle quantum information protocols and algorithms
  • Implement new verification & validation protocols
  • Implement proof-of-principle quantum error correction protocols

The position will also include broader responsibilities related to superconducting qubit systems engineering: support and oversee development of reasonable software- and data-backends, support transparency of data, analysis and reporting. The position will include technical guidance of a group of ~5-10 junior researchers (in partnership with PI Kjaergaard) and the candidate is expected to have a strong interest in supporting a healthy, safe and fun work environment for a diverse group of students and researchers. Finally, the candidate is expected to engage with the local eco-system of other quantum device experimentalists, qubit theory experts and the broader quantum community around Niels Bohr Institute and beyond.

This position will be embedded within the Superconducting Quantum Information Devices Lab (SQuID Lab) and the succesful candidate will work in close collaboration with PI Assoc. Prof. Morten Kjaergaard. SQuID Lab is a research group jointly embedded at the Center for Quantum Devices (QDev), a Danish National Research Foundation Center of Excellence and at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) a mission-driven resarch activity focused developing quantum hardware for fault-tolerant quantum computing. The position is 50/50 funded via a Villum Young Investigator grant and NQCP.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, engineering, nanotechnology, or related.
  • 2+ years’ experimental/theoretical work with superconducting qubits, quantum information and quantum computing.
  • Proven skill in working with superconducting qubits (e.g. calibrating and operating single—and multi—qubit systems, experience in developing quantum information experiments for superconducting qubits etc),
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment (e.g. operating cryostats, measurement setups, high-frequency electronics etc),
  • Experience in modeling, controlling and analyzing experiments and developing theoretical models to both guide and understand experimental results.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as special consultant. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 37 hours per week on average and the working hours are flexible.

The position is limited until 31 December 2029, and appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
