BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

The Quantum Optomechanics group at the Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to develop platforms and protocols for mechanical quantum sensors, starting from 16 October 2023 or by arrangement.

The Projects
Our group explores mechanical systems with unprecedented coherence for application as sensors, memories and transducers that operate at the quantum limit. We permanently strive to expand our unique expertise in this area, and to harness it for applications that range from imaging individual proteins to testing the foundations of quantum mechanics, in collaboration with our international partners.

Currently, we seek a postdoctoral researcher who can support us with one or more of the following tasks.

• Developing and fabricating mechanical sensors in novel geometries and materials, including 2-d materials, and their functionalization, for enhanced coherence and sensitivity to spin, charge, heat, and mass.
• Harnessing mechanical parametric interactions for the preparing mechanical systems in squeezed and entangled quantum states, that improve sensitivity to impulsive forces.
• Exploring strong magnetic coupling between a mechanical resonator and an individual electronic spin for spin sensing and the preparation of highly non-classical mechanical quantum states.
• Implementing optical and microwave interferometry for readout of mechanical signals at and beyond the standard quantum limit.

The projects are supported by the European Research Council (ERC) and a Synergy grant of the Novo Nordisk Foundation, in collaboration with ETH Zurich and TU Vienna.

The Scientific Environment
The Quantum Optomechanics group works at a dynamic research frontier with an international and interdisciplinary team, supported by cutting-edge infrastructure for microwave and optical measurements at the quantum limit, cryogenic platforms down to milliKelvin temperatures, and access to world-class nanofabrication facilities.

The research is embedded in a wide collaboration network, which also provides access to first-class theoretical support. Our work contributes to the Danish Center of Excellence “Hybrid Quantum Networks Hy-Q”. The larger quantum community at the Niels Bohr Institute provides for a stimulating environment with ample opportunity for interactions, and exposure to international frontier research through visitors and lectures.

We are looking for the following qualifications:
• Professional qualifications relevant to the project
• Relevant publications
• Relevant work experience
• Other relevant professional activities
• Curious mind-set with a strong interest in the physics and engineering of mechanical quantum systems
• Good language skills

Specifically, experience with one or several of the following techniques is an advantage, but not a requirement: finite-element modelling of mechanical or microwave systems, nano- and microfabrication techniques, laser-optical interferometry, feedback control systems, superconducting microwave electronics, and cryogenics.
